SUPERHEIST - Shock Records

superheist
superheist

Superheist was an Australian nu metal band that attained a significant degree of success with a string of EPs and singles and two full-length albums that charted in the Top 40 before suddenly disbanding in 2004.

The group was formed in Melbourne in 1993 with a line-up of guitarist DW Norton, vocalist Roderick McLeod, bassist Adam Donath and Sean Pentecost on drums. The "Apocalypse" demo shows them as a grindcore band in the Napalm Death mould. They went on to feature at the annual Metal for the Brain festival in 1995 and 1996, losing Pentecost along the way.

Superheist were signed to Melbourne's Shock Records for release on its subsidiary label Shagpile and recorded the EP "Chrome Matrix" in early 1997 with Aaren Suttil (1974–2006) from Dreadnaught providing drums. This EP showed a stark shift in musical direction from grindcore and toward a clearly commercial, melodic sound styled after the increasingly influential nu metal school. Shortly before its release, Donath was injured in an industrial accident that almost severed his hand. Nevertheless, he was able to remain with the band while they searched for a replacement. Pentecost rejoined and Superheist played some shows on the east coast with Non-Intentional Lifeform, another early Australian nu metal band that was signed to Roadrunner Records and was attracting some mainstream interest. Late in the year Donath was replaced by Simon Durrant, from the Adelaide-based industrial death metal band In:Extremis. This group had released two EPs, the latter of which, "Hybrid Scarifier", had appeared shortly before the band ended midway through 1997.

Tigertailz

Tigertailz are a glam metal band hailing from Cardiff, Wales. They are most famous for their 1990 album, Bezerk which made the Top 40 in the UK Albums Chart, with hit singles "Love Bomb Baby" and the ballad "Heaven", and spawned a couple of successful singles. The band reformed in 2005 to considerable popular acclaim.

Part of the nascent glam metal scene in the late 1980s, Tigertailz first line-up issued their debut album, Young And Crazy, in 1987. The album featured vocalist Steevi Jaimz, guitarist Jay Pepper, bassist Pepsi Tate and drummer Ace Finchum. The debut album also provided their first single, "Livin' Without You".

As the band toured, vocalist Steevi Jaimz was not fully committed to the band, and several instances of fighting were recorded. The band recruited Kim Hooker to replace Jaimz in time for follow-up album, Bezerk which was released in 1990 on the Music For Nations label.

Prior to the release of Bezerk, the band re-recorded "Livin Without' You" with Hooker as vocalist, and released it as a single. Thousand Needles in Red

THOUSAND NEEDLES IN RED - Sony/Roadshow Records

Thousand Needles in Red
Thousand Needles in Red

Thousand Needles In Red are a band in one of those unusual positions – which do occur occasionally, but are far from the norm – where the members are based in completely different cities and states.

It means that their activities are just a little different to that of most bands. “’Cos Clint’s in Brisbane, and the rest of the band’s in Sydney,” Tristan expands, “everything we’ve done from day one has been very strategic. Like, the songs for our EP were basically written in a weekend when Clint came down. When we’re together, has to be game on, because we don’t have time to muck around. So when Clint’s down we gotta work, it’s like ‘let’s put in, eight hours, just to start off with.’ We’ve just gotta go for it.

Dukes of Windsor

DUKES OF WINDSOR - EMI/Capitol Records

Dukes of Windsor
Dukes of Windsor

Dukes of Windsor are a Berlin-based Australian Electro/Rock group.

Dukes of Windsor were an Australian electronic rock group. Although formed in Melbourne, Australia, they were based in Berlin, Germany. They are notable for their single "It's a War", released in Australia in 2008 and in Europe in early 2010, as well as their song "The Others", remixed by Australian electronic group TV Rock. They "fuse minimalist rhythms, punchy bass-lines, cascading guitar riffs, and glacial synths". Their music has been described as "angular and reductive, groovy and melodic", and has been termed the beautiful paradox of "robotic soul".

The Dukes of Windsor are an amazing Melbourne band with their career now spending more than a decade. There career began with the release of the EP Foxhunt in 2005. Debut album The Others followed in 2006, produced in Melbourne by expatriate American Jonathan Burnside (Faith No More, Nirvana). Extra production, mixing and mastering were provided by hardcore producers Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Lövström (Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come, Poison the Well, Hell Is for Heroes) from Tonteknik Studios in Umea, Sweden. After the release of the album, the band embarked on an intensive schedule of touring around Australia. After extensive national radio play, they were showcased as a Next Crop Artist by national broadcaster Triple J in November 2006.
In 2007, the remix of their debut single "The Others" was certified Gold in Australia (50,000 copies), was a top 10 ARIA single, spent three months at #1 on the ARIA Club Chart, and received an ARIA Award nomination. The guys also closed out the MTV Australian Music Video Awards ceremony in Sydney that year.
Second album Minus was released through Island Records in Australia in late 2008. To record the album, the band reunited with Pelle and Eskil, travelling to Tonteknik Studios in the Swedish winter. The album's title both represents these sub-zero temperatures, as well as the fresh clinical approach to the album. The stark sound is balanced with warm synth textures and vocals.
After the release of Minus, the band took in a string of sell-out gigs in capital cities, as well as completing dates nationally with Sneaky Sound System, Sam Sparro, The Music and The Vines. The band also featured heavily on Australian national broadcaster Triple J, with two Number One Most Played songs, and television performances on both Rove Live("It's a War") and The Footy Show ("Get It"). Three singles were released from Minus, including "It's a War", "Get It" (both 2008), and "Runaway" (2009). The video clip for "Runaway" was also featured as a Ripe Clip of the Week on national music television channel Channel [V].
In December 2009 the band relocated to Berlin, Germany to continue writing their third full-length album. After signing a management and joint venture deal with local indie label Motor Music, they also released the album It's a War, an album of selected songs from both Minus and The Others. Since then, they are preparing to self-produce their next full-length album.
The Dukes of Windsor still have a religious cult following and perform regular around Australia and Europe.
