In this blog, I am going to be discussing the subject of why do I sound flat or off… let’s cut straight to the chase, let’s not waste any more time because I am here to help you out and I want to fix your voice.
The reason why you are sounding flat or off at times is because you are not singing the right note or notes. You need to sing the right notes all the time, so if you are having troubles with this, what I first and foremost want you to do is find your speaking key roughly around where you speak. Try to find or play the same note you are speaking in on guitar or piano and even if you don’t have any of those two instruments, hear where your speaking voice is and just find out where that is and try to pick songs that don’t have a lot of melody and are around your speaking key to start with. I will then need you to learn the lyrics, melody and the phrasing a hundred and ten percent of this song.
Start singing along with the original artists but please also listen to the music because the chords that are being played within the music are telling you what key you need to sing.Meaning that you didn’t need to know about music theory or even what key the song is in. Who cares about that? Just listen to the chord because the chord is telling you where you got to sing or the notes have to be. Practice the original version with the actual singer and get it down hundred and ten percent. Once that is and only a 110% percent, go and get the backing track or the instrumental version of it and practice with that without the original singer. If you’re having trouble with this and still going flat or off, go back to the original singer and practice it again until it’s a hundred and ten percent then go back into the backing track or instrumental version again.

• Find songs that are around your speaking range and suit your vocal range.
• Start singing along with the original version get it down 110% and do not move to practising with the backing track until it is.
• Get it down with the backing track 110%
• Choose the next song that may be a little bit more challenging
• But keep the melody fairly simple until you get this next song down, your third song should be something that is a little bit more challenging to do with melody that will be moving around to challenge your voice a little.
